I chose to study at Whitley because I knew a few people there and they spoke highly of the experience. There was also a family feel to the place – the teachers and admin staff were lovely people and lovely Christians.
My name is Phil Mizzi. I’m presently completing a Post-Graduate in Theology.
I’m also an associate pastor at RBC Baptist Church. My main ministry is in preaching and teaching.
Whitley has been a wonderful environment to meet other like-minded Christians. The lecturers have a great combination of subject expertise matched with life experience. The result is pragmatic teaching which I can apply in my own ministry.
The most important thing I’ve taken away from college so far is that we all carry different perspectives. Different faith journeys. We can all learn from each other. Absolutes tend to close down discussion and collaboration.
It’s a great community of people but if I had to single out one … Professor Mark Brett. I did an Old Testament class (Hebrew Bible) with Mark. He personifies that expertise and experience thing I was talking about. It’s quite moving to listen to his storytelling and expansive knowledge of the Bible.
Outside of Whitley and my ministry, a lazy Saturday afternoon for me is working around the house while listening to footy or cricket. I also like to go for long runs in the Plenty Valley Hills and relax with my family.
